In a significant development towards economic development and social uplift through irrigated agriculture in Dera Bugti/ Balochistan, the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has completed construction of Phase – I of Kachhi Canal Project. Subsequent to filling of water, the Prime Minister is scheduled to formally inaugurate the canal in 2nd week of September by releasing water in the distribution systems to irrigate as many as 72,000 acres of land in the far-flung and backward areas of Dera Bugti district.
Following completion of the project, WAPDA today has started filling water in the 363-kilometer long main canal from the head regulator located at Taunsa Barrage to test the main canal and various structures including head regulator and cross regulators.
To mark the event, WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (Retd) visited head regulator of the Kachhi Canal at Taunsa Barrage and started filling of water in the main canal by opening gates of the head regulator. WAPDA Advisor (Projects), General Manager (Central) Water, Project Director Kachhi Canal, representatives of the Consultants, and Contractors and senior officers of the project were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, WAPDA Chairman said that Kachhi Canal, initiated in 2002, was almost an abandoned project because of time and cost overrun for a number of reasons. However, with active support of the Federal Government and excellent work by WAPDA engineers, the project was brought back to the track and is now finally complete. He paid homage to the Federal Government, law enforcing agencies and the project management to complete Kachhi Canal despite so many difficulties, especially law and order situation in the project area. The Chairman also appreciated support of the locals in completion of the project.
Phase – I of Kachhi Canal has been completed with a cost of about Rs. 80 billion. The 363-Kilometer long main canal (out of which 351-Kilometer is lined canal) takes off from Taunsa Barrage in Muzaffar Garh district of Punjab province and ends at Dera Bugti district in Balochistan province. It is worth mentioning that Kachhi Canal Project is of immense importance for development of water infrastructure and irrigated agriculture in Balochistan.

31 اگست :2017کچھی کینال منصوبے کے پہلے مرحلے کی تعمیر مکمل ہو گئی ہے۔تونسہ بیراج پر واقع پراجیکٹ کے ہیڈ ریگولیٹر سے آج 363کلو میٹر طویل مین کینال میں پانی بھرنے کا اہم مرحلہ شروع کر دیا گیا ہے۔مین کینال میں پانی کی بھرائی مکمل ہونے کے بعد وزیر اعظم پاکستان ستمبر کے دوسرے ہفتے میں کچھی کینال منصوبے کا باقاعدہ افتتاح کریں گے۔یہ منصوبہ بلوچستان خصوصا ڈیرہ بگٹی کے دور دراز اور پسماندہ علاقے میں آبپاش زراعت کے ذریعے لوگوں کی اقتصادی اور معاشرتی ترقی کے لئے بہت اہم ہے۔منصوبے سے ڈیرہ بگٹی میں 72ہزار ایکڑ زمین زیر کاشت آئے گی۔
پراجیکٹ پر تعمیراتی کام مکمل ہونے پر چیئر مین واپڈا لیفٹیننٹ جنرل مزمل حسین (ریٹائرڈ) نے مین کینال میں پانی بھرنے کے آغاز کے موقع پر تونسہ بیراج سے متصل پراجیکٹ کے ہیڈ ریگولیٹر کا دورہ کیا۔ایڈوائزر (پراجیکٹس)،جنرل منیجر (سنٹرل) واٹر اور پراجیکٹ ڈائریکٹر کچھی کینال کے علاوہ کنسلٹنٹس اور کنٹریکٹرز کے نمائندے بھی اس دوران موجود تھے ۔چیئرمین واپڈا نے ہیڈ ریگولیٹر پر نصب بٹن دبا کر مین کینال میں پانی کی بھرائی کا
آغازکیا۔
اس موقع پر گفتگو کرتے ہوئے چیئرمین واپڈا نے کہا کہ کچھی کینال منصوبہ 2002میں شروع کیا گیا تھالیکن منصوبے کی تکمیل میں تاخیر اور لاگت میں اضا فہ کی وجہ سے یہ منصوبہ تقریبا ترک کیا جا رہا تھا۔لیکن وفاقی حکومت کی بھر پور مدد اور واپڈا انجینئرز کی محنت اور شاندار کام کی بدولت اس منصوبے کو نئی زندگی ملی اور اب اسکی تعمیر مکمل کر لی گئی ہے۔انہوں نے منصوبے پر تعمیراتی کام مکمل ہونے کے حوالے سے وفاقی حکومت ،قانون نافذ کرنے والے اداروں اور پراجیکٹ انتظامیہ کو خراج تحسین پیش کیا۔جنہوں نے شدید مشکلات اور پراجیکٹ ایریا میں امن و امان کی صورتحال کے باوجود یہ اہم کام سر انجام دیا۔
چیئر مین واپڈا نے منصوبے کی تعمیر میں مقامی لوگوں کے تعاون پر ان کا شکریہ ادا کیا۔
کچھی کینال منصوبے کا پہلا مرحلہ 80ارب روپے کی لاگت سے مکمل کیا گیاہے۔363کلو میٹر طویل مین کینال میں سے351کلو میٹر کینال پختہ ہے۔یہ نہر صوبہ پنجاب کے ضلع مظفر گڑھ میں واقع تونسہ بیراج سے نکلتی ہے اور صوبہ بلوچستان کے ضلع ڈیرہ بگٹی میں ختم ہوتی ہے۔یہ بات قابل ذکر ہے کہ کچھی کینال منصوبہ بلوچستان میں واٹر انفراسٹرکچر اور زرعی شعبہ کی ترقی کے لئے کلیدی اہمیت رکھتا ہے۔
